Like many small towns in Italy, the chefs of Cortona pride themselves on creating menus with locally sourced food for authentic recipes typical of their region and specifically from Cortona. I look for small restaurants preferably owned by a local family. In this way, I contribute to the local economy and keep the family traditions alive.
Cortona is small enough that you can wander the streets and even smaller alleyways to find a quaint little restaurant that meets your appetite. Below you’ll find two of my favorite food spots in Cortona:
Turscher I don't often recommend restaurants on the main drag or on the tourist route, but this one is an exception. Turscher is exceptionally wonderful both in food and customer service. Did I mention it is owned and operated by locals Massimo and Daniela? They are gracious and very accommodating. If you sit at one of their tables al fresco, it's easy to see that everyone in town knows them. They are open from morning to evening, so stop inside for a coffee under their beautiful chandeliered bar. In the colder season, the dining room and upper sitting area create a perfect cozy atmosphere.

Tempero Ristorante Just north of Piazza della Repubblica, you can’t do better than Tempero's. This indoor/outdoor spot is a great place to people-watch if you chose to sit outside. As you can see from the photo of Temero below, the interior is quaint and intimate. The owner has been here for over 25 years and her chef loves to source local food which makes his daily menus delectable.
